Death of Critical Thinking

is this the end

“We humans tend to think that we have accumulated enough knowledge so we stopped looking for more.”

Nowadays if we need something ,or require to solve a problem ,what is our first step ? Most of us open the internet, ask what we need since someone may already have the answer and 95% of the time we do get what we want. Does that mean we do not need to think ourselves anymore. Since it would be a waste of time to think about something that already exists and we can get it in seconds.

But this makes me think ,What will be the difference between humans and a computer programs. Computer programs cannot think they have a database or they are trained on a dataset and, when we ask a question they fetch the most relevant answer from the data they have or trained on. The now trending LLM’s does something called Hallucinations where it generates new data which was not being fed to it which most of the time is incorrect. Is that similar to human thinking and creativity ? Humans brain also works in a similar manner. We also have a dataset called memories accumulated through past experiences. Using this dataset we can get new ideas, new thoughts but we can judge between wrong and right, we can reason. That’s what makes us different.

When we think of some solution to our problems ourselves without relying on existing sources it may look like our time is being wasted but we may think of something original that may become the new best solution, The new great idea. These is how new discoveries are made and new ideas are born. This is how our brain improves. So keep thinking ,keep pushing the human race forward!
